Modern hard rock arguably gets a bad rep. While the likes of AC/DC and Airbourne still harbour fans in the millions, there has always existed the underline snobbery pointed its way.
Whether it be down to the lyrical tropes of girls, beer and fistfights, straightforward songwriting and bread and butter riffs, the genre has often been slated for a lack of originality and substance. This is, I believe, to entirely miss the point and UK-based The Jokers would certainly agree; their upcoming track ‘Rock and Roll Bones’ is a rather prominent middle finger to the aforementioned naysayers.
The band themselves say it best – epitomising the very essence of the genre to a tea.
“When we were kids we were inspired by seeing a great rock and roll show that would take you out of your everyday normal life and leave you on a high. There would be the buzz of the crowd, stacks of amps, fireworks, explosions etc … That is what our band is all about – fun and great song craft.” The Jokers
Serving as the titular lead to their forthcoming fourth LP, the track is a rambunctious and raging tale of rough and ready riffs and pumping rhythms – all in the name of a good time. That is, after all, what this type of music is known for. It’s an upfront affair with frontman Wane giving Brian Johnson a run for his money with his invigorating wails; all in all, it’s a song that’s impossible to stay still to.
The song radiates the pedigree that the band has gathered having toured wake having toured with the likes of Status Quo, Fozzy, and Hayseed Dixie, the latter of which will be touring with The Jokers across the UK to leave a trail of mayhem and hellfire.
The Jokers have, once again, epitomised what hard is and should be about – no-nonsense, ear-to-ear grin-inducing fun; while some may critique it’s certain they’ll have the last laugh.
Rock and Roll Bones is set to be released November 11th!
