Acclaimed jazz singer-songwriter Lorna Reid is preparing to release her latest album, “I Will Tell Your Story,” featuring the lead single “Sweet Baby Blues.” The single will be available on November 23, 2024, offering a taste of Reid’s new musical direction.
“Sweet Baby Blues” marks a departure from Reid’s known full jazz band sound, venturing into a more intimate musical setting. The track was co-written with Darden Smith during a writer’s retreat in Scotland at Moniak Mhor. It combines tender piano melodies with Reid’s evocative vocals and includes a saxophone solo, capturing a moment of reflection and longing set at 2 am.
The album “I Will Tell Your Story” explores stories that have yet to be told, mixing jazz, blues, and soul influences. It draws inspiration from classic jazz icons like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, as well as artists outside the traditional jazz genre, including Joni Mitchell and X-Ray Spex. The result is a diverse range of songs that transition from intimate ballads to energetic tracks.
Lorna Reid is known for her diverse influences and broad artistic pursuits. Her 2013 album “Falling Like Dew” showcased her ability to blend genres while respecting jazz traditions, earning her a spot at the Rochester NY International Jazz Festival.
Live performances to support the album’s release will begin in March 2025. Scheduled appearances include the Linlithgow Jazz Club on March 1st, the Ayr Jazz Club on March 7th, and later at the Northwest Castle Jazz Weekend from October 10th to 12th.
“I Will Tell Your Story” will be available in March 2025, following the release of “Sweet Baby Blues,” offering a new chapter in Lorna Reid’s musical journey.
