The best things tend to come in threes don’t they? If the age-old saying needed any sort of modern backing then The Pinprick’s ravenous triple-attack EP ‘Rituals’ is the ideal choice.
For those unware of the band’s tectonic-weighted world of riffs, rampant rhythms and general rousing of riotous raucous , The Pinpricks are a German indie/hard-rock outfit that have seen quite the meteoric rise since their debut EP in 2018, a rise that has seen the band front stages alongside Thundermother, Capsula, and The Brew UK.
These feats should garner no surprise, especially following just one run through ‘Ritual’s three-pronged attack. On paper it’s a simple affair with three hard-rock bangers neatly aligned to disembowel an unsuspecting eardrum and give your neck a damn good workout but it goes far deeper.
The band managed to conjure a gloriously diverse palette in such small space, with frontwoman Ronja Kiminsky adding her two-tone delivery that sees angelic cleans mix with a punk-toned rasp, and the EPs low end even matching some of Royal Blood’s best blues rock fuzz. It may be a short project but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in flavour and technical proficiency.
The moral of the story is that ‘Rituals’ is just the beginning of this band’s imminent rise to the status of genre stalwart. Never has an EP packed such a concise, yet diverse, punch and never has it done so without sacrificing a general sense of organic variety as opposed to shoe-horning in each and every influence imaginable. Keep your ears to the floor with these ones, this is only the beginning.
